TIE & DYE - A TIMELESS ART.

 

Tie & Dye is very traditional art of dying fabrics, T&D is easy way to add vibrant color and unexpected but very interested patterns on cloths or fabric, Brilliant effects are created by binding , folding or scrambling fabric before dying.

It is dying natural fabrics like cotton, silk etc. that results in interesting and colorful patterns, and that beautiful patterned fabric can be used as a curtain, pillow covers, napkins, bed sheets, sarees, dupattas and suits.

The technique of tying of cloths with thread and then dying it  with natural and variety of color it is simplest and oldest form of creating patterns through wrinkles on a plain piece of cloths is vidley know as tie & dye, the technique involves spirals, marbling, diamonds, ovals, squares, knotting crumpling, pleating or folding the fabric to create wrinkles then trying it with string to secure those wrinkles and gets various patterns in india its called ‘Bandhani’.

The ancient “Bandhani” or Indian T&D technique began around 5000 years ago in the indian states of Rajesthan and Gujarat, “ Bandhani” comes from hindi word bandhna which means tying.

   

  • Ekdali: single dot
    • Tikunthi: three dots that make circles and squares
    • Chaubundi: four dots
    • Satbandi: dots in groups of seven
    • Boond: small dot with a dark center
    • Kodi: tear or drop-shaped pattern
    • Dungar Shahi or Shikargah: a mountain?like pattern
    • Jaaldar: web?like pattern
    • Beldaar: vine?like pattern
    • Laddu Jalebi: swirling pattern
    • Leheriya: wave-like pattern

 

Art of Bandhani is a highly skilled process. Fabric to be dyed, is tied very tightly at different points, forming a pattern and it is then dyed in different colors. When this tied fabric is dipped for dyeing, the tied part does not catch color and remains of the same color as the fabric. Once the fabric is dyed, it is dried in open air
